The Sophomore and Junior Students' Perception of Using Duolingo in Improving English Skill. Undergraduate thesis, English Education Study Program, Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Muhammadiyah Luwuk University. Under the guidance of Yusniati N. Sabata, and Hardianti. Duolingo is one of the affordable applications for learning languages, including English. Many university students, especially English Department Students, have utilized it to improve their English skills. Departing from this phenomenon, this research wants to find out the opinions of students majoring in English who have used the Duolingo application to improve their English skills. The research design was qualitative. The data were collected via interviews with eleven representatives involved in audio recording and Google form. The participants of this research are 11 students of the English Education Study Program at Muhammadiyah Luwuk University. In the research the researcher found some similarities and differences of the student's opinions about Duolingo application. The students share the same opinion about why they get bored quickly when using Duolingo, namely: 1)
Frequent test repetition; and 2)The intention of the users to learn. However, they do not agree upon the ideas of general description of Duolingo. The conclusion of this research based on the data obtained reveals that Duolingo application is very useful for people who learn English. In addition, the researcher categorizes students as Duolingo users based on how long they have been using Duolingo application, namely: Long time user, Medium user, and Beginner user.
