Causes Of Learners' Reticent In English Class
Causes of Learners' Reticence in English Class at Second Grade of SMKN 2 Luwuk. Skripsi. English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Muhammadiyah Luwuk University. Supervisor Yusniati N. Sabata, S.S., M.Hum. The objectives of this research were to find out (1) the causes of learners' reticence in English class at SMKN 2 Luwuk. The results of the research were (a) low self esteem (b) fear of being ridiculed when they inappropriately respond (c) fear of success (d) cultural differences (e) communication apprehension. The five causes was classified as general causes, then the researcher found two causes namely (a) an other-directed self (b) submissive way of learning. Both of them as classified in specific causes. (2) Factors contributing the causes of learners reticence in English class at SMKN 2 Luwuk. The results of the research there were six factors that contributing the causes of learners' reticence in English class, namely (a) speaking in front of the class (b) incomprehension input (c) teachers' strategy. The three causes were classified as factors contribute to reticence come from teacher. Then there were three factors that come from students they are (a) being laughed at by others, (b) students beliefs about the language learning (c) lack of preparation. In this research the researcher also found the additional result namely (a) time (b) lack of appreciation. The research applied qualitative research that required interview to the learners that researched. The subject was second grade of SMKN 2 Luwuk. In collecting the data, the researcher used interview as an instrument.
