Supervisor Yuliana Mangendre, S.Pd., M.Pd and Co Supervisor Yusniati N. Sabata S.S., M.Hum. This research aims to explain students' difficulties in writing descriptive texts. This research used qualitative method. The research subjects were students of IX MTs.N Negri 1 Banggai who had difficulty in writing descriptive texts. The data of this research were taken using a writing test to collect data. Data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing were used to analyze the data. The result showed that the IX students of MTs. Negri 1 Banggai had difficulties in writing descriptive texts. The difficulties were difficulties in generic structure and language features. From the results of writing about descriptive texts it can be concluded that there are some students who have difficulty in arranging the correct words, students also have difficulties in describing something that only describes the magnitude and students do not describe in detail what they describe. Students have difficulty in using adjectives based on the writing, students can conclude that students lack words so that when writing descriptive text students should be able to write three to four paragraphs but all students only wrote one paragraph and it was too short because students also lacked in organizing ideas in expanding the interviewer about what they were going to describe so that almost all of the students writings had something common.
