Yusniati N. Sabata, S.S., M. Hum. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The purpose of this study is to identify linguistic factors that students obstacles from learning to speak English in the classroom. In this research, the data was collected through interviews using voice recorder with students of the English Education Study Program, Muhammadiyah University of Luwuk, in fifth semester. To guide this research, researcher adopts Spolsky & Hult (2008) in general linguistic that consisted of detailed grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary. This research shows the domain of linguistic factors as an obstacle to speaking in FL students in class. Based on the discussion and findings, the domain of linguistic factors as an obstacle to speaking in EFL students in class is the lexicon factor 85%. Since they do not finish the sentence while speaking, it is due to a lack of vocabulary. The next factor is phonology because of the difficulty in correcting the pronunciation of English words, and the last one is syntax because students often complete these structural components when they speak.
