Word for Word Translation Strategy to Improve Students' Reading Skills. English Language Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Muhammadiyah University of Luwuk. This study aims to see whether there is an improve in the reading ability of the second semester students of the English Education Study Program using the word-for-word translation method or not. The design of this research was quasi experimental. The population of this research was chosen from the students of second semester at English Education Study Program Muhammadiyah of Luwuk in 2021/2022. The samples were divided into two classes. Class A 15 and class B 15, consisted of 30 students. Class A was experimental class and class B was a control class. The data collecting technique was test, the researcher gave pre-test and post-test. The score of pre-test 62,6 and the post-test 86,6. The calculation results show that the t-count (3.40) is higher than the t-table (1.701). The alternative hypothesis (Ha) and the null hypothesis (Ho) were rejected. Therefore, it can be said that the application of the word for word method can significantly improve the reading skills of the second semester students of the English department.
