An Analysis Of Students' Difficulties In Translating English Sentence Into Indonesia
An Analysis of Students' Difficulties In Translating English Sentence Into Indonesian. Undergraduate Thesis, English Education Study Program. Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Muhammadiyah University of Luwuk. Under supervised by Mukmin and Co-Supervisor ST. Marhana Rullu.
The purpose of this study is to identify the areas in which students struggle while translating English material into Indonesian as well as the forms of translation that they employ. This study examined the types of translations that students in the English Education Study Program at the Muhammadiyah University of Luwuk used when they were engaged in translating activities. It also examined the challenges that these students faced. Ten students served as informants for this qualitative study, which was done on sixth-semester English Education Study Program students at the University of Muhammadiyah Luwuk. Interviews and documentation are the research's primary data sources. Data reduction, data presentation, and data levers/conclusions were used to analyze the data. Purposive sampling was used to choose research informants. The results of this study revealed that students struggle to translate English texts that are more influenced by their linguistics to comprehend the meaning of words that are not found in dictionaries, to translate idiomatic expressions, to translate long sentences, and to translate texts using more than two methods. The two options are free translation and word-for-word translation. The researcher concludes that instructors need to encourage students to learn about translation techniques and tactics rather than being limited to a small number of them based on certain questions.
