English Education Departmen Female VS Male Students: The Case Of English Pronunciationn Clarity
English Education Department Female VS Male Students : The Case Of English Pronunciation Clarity By Students English Education Study Program Of Universitas Muhammadiyah Luwuk. Undergraduate Thesis, English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Muhammadiyah Luwuk. Supervised by : Hardianti and Nurhaida Lakuana. This study aimed to analyze the clarity of English pronunciation between male and female sixth-semester students in the English Education Study Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Luwuk. Utilizing a mixed-method approach, the research integrated quantitative data from the ELSA Speak application and qualitative data from semi-structured interviews. The quantitative results revealed that male students had a higher average pronunciation score than female students. However, the difference was not statistically significant. The qualitative findings showed that male students often engaged in informal learning activities, such as playing online games and listening to podcasts, which helped improve their pronunciation skills and self-confidence. In contrast, female students demonstrated high motivation and structured learning strategies but tended to be more cautious in speaking. These findings suggest that gender alone does not determine pronunciation clarity; rather, it is shaped by a combination of psychosocial and cognitive factors. Additionally, the integration of technology, such as ELSA Speak, has proven effective for pronunciation assessment, especially when supported by strategies that foster observational learning, self-regulation, and intrinsic motivation. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the development of more adaptive and personalized pronunciation learning strategies.
