Artificial Intelligence And The Future Of English Language Teaching: A Teacher's Perspetive
Artificial Intelligence and the Future of English Language Teaching: a Teacher's Perspective. Undergraduate Thesis, English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Muhammadiyah Luwuk. Supervised by: Yuliana Mangendre and Nurhaida Lakuana. The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology has had a significant impact on the world of education, including English language learning. This study aims to explore English teachers perspectives of the use of AI in the learning process and their perspectives on the future of English language teaching (ELT) in the Al era. This study used a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews with eight English teachers at senior and vocational high schools in Luwuk District, Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi. Data were analyzed using Braun and Clarke's thematic analysis model, grounded in the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) by Davis and Teachers' Perceptions of Educational Technology by Ertmer & Ottenbreit-Leftwich. The results show that teachers consider Al to be useful for improving effectiveness, efficiency, and quality of learning, and relatively easy to use, despite challenges such as infrastructure limitations, lack of training, risk of plagiarism, and student dependence on technology. Teachers also emphasize the importance of ethics, supervision, and the wise use of AI. Regarding the future of ELT, AI is seen as capable of creating more interactive and engaging learning experiences, but it will not replace the role of teachers as educators and character developers. Therefore, the success of Al utilization depends heavily on teachers' adaptation, improved digital literacy, policy support, training, infrastructure, and ethical guidelines.
