Students' Difficulties in Comprehending the English Reading Text at 8th Grade of SMPN 5 Taliabu Selatan. Undergraduate Thesis. The purpose of this study was to determine the causes and factors of students' difficulties in comprehending the English reading text at 8th grade at SIMPN 5 Taliabu Selatan. This research uses qualitative methods. The subject of the study was a grade 8 student of SMPN 5 Taliabu Selatan. This study uses theories from Alderson J.C (2000) and Anderson in Arif (2006). This research was conducted by collecting data through observation checklist and interview. And the results of this study show that there are several causes and factors of difficulty for students in grade 8 at SMPN 5 Talaiabu Selatan. Based on the data that has been obtained, there are several causes and factors of students' difficulties, including lack of language knowledge, lack of motivation, lack of concentration, background experience, language ability, thinking ability and affection. The findings of this study show that there are 3 causes and 4 factors that contribute to the difficulties students have in understanding English reading texts. The results this study support the results of the theory used.
